LETTER TO UNITED NATIONS
To the US Mission to the UN and whomever else it may concern,
I, Benjamin Myles, am writing to express my concern over the United Nations Outer Space Treaty of 1967, Part E, Article 11. I believe that this Article limits humankind’s natural right to personal and private property in the universe. If enforced, this limitation will severely harm human progress in exploration, science, and technology. This declaration goes against the natural law and rights of humankind.
The ownership and use of all bodies, resources, and discoveries in Outer Space should be legally recognized as the right of an individual or of individuals voluntarily associating. This will allow for the progress of humanity and will certainly lead to advances in the common good. Outer Space is our future and the legal claims to it should not be left in a state of ambiguity. Instead, the United Nations and its members should seek to recognize the inherent right of all individuals to homestead--or alternatively, habitatstead--the wilds of Outer Space.
I hope that this office and Ambassador Craft--along with the rest of humankind--consider this important issue and seek the appropriate revisions to the 1967 Outer Space Treaty.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Myles
